Rockstar plans to release the PC version of GTA 6 in the first quarter of 2027, at most four months after the console launch on 19 November. That is what GamesBeat reported on 13 October, citing four anonymous sources familiar with the studio's plans. Rockstar did not respond to a request for comment and has confirmed nothing so far, so officially the game is known only for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. If the report proves right, the wait for PC players would be more than a year shorter than it was for GTA 5.
What exactly GamesBeat reported
The article's author, Alexander Lee, writes that GamesBeat "has confirmed" a plan to release the PC version in the first quarter of 2027, according to four industry sources who asked for anonymity to avoid damaging business relationships with the studio. The piece was published on 13 October and updated the next day. There is no exact date: the quarter ends on 31 March, so the window runs from January to the end of March. There is also no word on the storefront, the price or the system requirements.
Other outlets picked the story up, among them VGC, which frames it as a "new report" and not an announcement. Nobody has added independent confirmation. Rockstar is silent, and Take-Two's quarterly results only reaffirm the console date of 19 November. With that in hand the report is a credible leak, not yet a date.
Why it would be a real change
So far Rockstar has made PC players wait. GTA 5 reached consoles in September 2013 and PCs in April 2015, a gap of one year and seven months. For GTA 4 the gap was about seven months. If GamesBeat is right, GTA 6 would beat both records: four months at most, which with a 19 November launch puts the PC version no later than the end of March.
VGC also recalls a remark from John Ricchio, a producer who earlier worked on Red Dead Redemption, Max Payne 3 and GTA 5. In his words the console-first approach comes down to resource management: Rockstar builds for the hardware with the tightest limits first, because developers know them, and thinks about PCs afterwards. That explains why PC usually waited at the back of the queue, but it does not say where a sudden rush would come from.
Where the rush could come from: GamesBeat's arguments
GamesBeat offers several reasons a shorter window would make sense. The first is money: GTA 6's production budget is rumoured to exceed 2 billion dollars (GamesBeat's estimate, not a number from Rockstar), so the studio has every reason to reach all players as fast as it can. The second is PC players, who are a minority in GTA 5 but would be a sizeable audience expansion for the new game.
The third reason is more specific. Rockstar has signalled plans for user-generated content tools, and in August 2023 it bought Cfx.re, the makers of FiveM, the GTA 5 modification that runs roleplay servers on PC. All of that activity happens on computers. GamesBeat adds that Twitch CEO Dan Clancy told Bloomberg at Tokyo Game Show that GTA 6 online will launch "next year", and without a PC version a roleplay server ecosystem is hard to imagine. That is the outlet's interpretation, not information from Rockstar, but it fits with what we described when covering the RAGE:MP shutdown and FiveM as the only multiplayer platform for GTA 5.
What we do not know
We know what a single piece based on anonymous sources tells us. There is no official date, price, requirements, storefront, or word on whether the game will need a separate launcher. GamesBeat itself notes that the PC version will have to pass the same quality bar as the console release before Rockstar ships it. The studio has already delayed the game twice: it first announced 2025, then May 2026, and now 19 November 2026. Nothing rules out the quarter window slipping the same way.
There is also a discrepancy with our own text. In June, in GTA 6: what we really know about the release, the world and the PC version, we estimated PC would get the game 12 to 18 months later, so late 2027 or early 2028. That was an extrapolation from GTA 5's history. If the report is confirmed, our forecast turns out too cautious by more than a year, and we will update that article.
What it changes for a PC player
Not much that is concrete yet. There is no reason to buy hardware for GTA 6, because Rockstar has not published requirements, and even in the most optimistic scenario the launch is months away. Planning for spring 2027 and watching Rockstar Newswire is sensible, because that is where official information will appear if the studio decides to share it. Until then, any store page with a code for the PC version or a "reservation" of a PC edition is suspect. We described a similar mechanism in our piece on the physical edition without a disc: a few store listings were enough to start an avalanche of questions.
By comparison, the console launch is being held: Take-Two keeps repeating 19 November. If you play only on PC, the one certain thing for now is that your version has neither a date nor a price.
